The Temple of Horus at Edfu
Building was started on the Temple of Horus in 237 BCE by Ptolemy III and finished in 57 BCE by Ptolemy XII who was the father of Queen Cleopatra. The Temple of Horus is the second largest and best preserved temple in Egypt. The Temple of Horus was buried under the dessert sands until 1860 when the French archaeologist Auguste Mariette (1821 – 1881) started excavating the site.

The temple is dedicated to the Ancient Egyptian god Horus. Horus was the god of the sky and the sun and was depicted with the body of a man and the head of Hawk.

Pyramid Remains at Edfu
The Pyramid remains are 5km north of Edfu near the village of Naga el-Goneima are the remains of a step pyramid built by King Huni of Dynasty III (2637 - 2613BC).

Tell Edfu
The Ancient settlement is located in Wetjeset-hor  - The remains at Tell Edfu date back to the 5th Dynasty.
